A Doctor’s Wife Talks About How She Is Coping With an Unknown Enemy

I am definitely feeling anxious, and I think the uncertainty is what is the worst. It’s an unseen enemy, and we are in uncharted waters. Every day we learn something new about the virus, but no one really knows how much worse it’ll get.

The medical community is doing its best in this terrible situation. Thankfully there have been no cases here yet, but my husband goes to the hospital every day, fearing the worst. Medical workers like CNAs and Phlebotomists have been reduced to protect patients who are there for other illnesses, and nurses are being forced to take on those additional responsibilities. This puts the burden of extra duties on the nurses. They are the real heroes. Honestly, it’s been tough; I constantly worry about my husband and he is worried about the whole situation, since it will definitely get worse before it gets better. We are fearful that pretty soon, someone will walk in the hospital and test positive, but I try to hope for the best.

My husband is on call starting Monday until next Monday, and this means that he will be spending a lot of time at the hospital. The scary thing is that there isn’t enough protective gear at the hospital.
